Magee got off to a winning start in Italy, defeating Switzerland’s Alya Huser in straight sets, the Raphoe woman winning 21-11 21-13.

She followed that up with a last sixteen win over European Junior medalist Delphine Lansac, Magee taking the victory 21-15 23-21.

In the quarter-final she came up against Marin, who was the number one seed for the event.

Despite a bright start to the match it was the Spanish number one who took the semi-final spot winning 21-17 21-14, though Magee put up a strong performance for the most part, but Marin took the momentum and the win with a rousing finish.
