Rescue Helicopter tasked twice

THE coastguard Sikorsky helicopter was tasked to an emergency in Inishowen this afternoon en route back from an emergency at Dunluce Castle on the Antrim Coast.

According to Malin Head Coastguard the helicopter was on its way to Dunluce to assist a woman who had fallen around 100 feet while caving in the rugged coastal area.

As the Sligo based rescue helicopter approached they were stood down after the woman was rescued by a local team.

While the chopper was heading back to its Sligo base it was called to a beach near the Isle of Doagh in Inishowen where two children had been swept out to sea on body boards.

A surf instructor who was on the beach spotted the children and went out the 100 metres they had drifted and brought them safely back to shore.
Malin Head stood down the helicopter which then returned to its base
