Illness forces Mark English to miss European teams

Mark English (U.C.D. A.C.) has had to withdraw from the Irish Team for the European Team Championships 1st League this weekend.

The World Junior 800m finalist was due to represent Ireland in the 800m event however he has made the difficult decision to withdraw due to a viral infection and has worked closely with the AAI medical team in coming to this decision.

Mark will be replaced in the team by Anthony Leighio (Tallaght A.C.). Anthony, who is coached by Eamonn Coghlan, has a personal best of 1.48.74.

Team Manager, Patsy McGonagle has said that “while the withdrawal of Mark is disappointing, having an athlete of the calibre of Anthony, who is ranked second behind Mark English this season, is very positive for the team.”
