A FULL-time singer/songwriter from Southwest Donegal has just released her latest single, a catchy new number for the summer that will make you go ‘Mmmm, Song’!

Emily Whelan from Woodhill on the outskirts of Ardara released her latest single, Mmmm Song, on Friday, and already it’s climbing up the Irish iTunes charts.

The song is one of her most recently composed tracks, having written it while she was supporting Rory Gallagher on his nationwide Jimmy’s Winning Matches Tour.

She said: “I thought it was a very catchy, radio friendly number, so I went into the studio with Keith Sherry who recorded, mixed and produced the song and I was also very lucky to have Kilcar’s Mickey D (The Revs) to join me on the recording.”

Emily’s single, Life, was released two years ago this month receiving national airplay for four months and being named as a BBC Radio Ulster single of the week. “It was a great incentive to continue with my music after my first single did so well,” she said.
The Ardara singer subsequently released the four-track EP, Fred, in 2012. After she received a lot of regional airplay, Emily went on a very unique tour of Ireland.

After being in contact with the national bus service provider, Emily went on the sponsored Bus Éireann Bus Stop Tour of the North West, performing on the trip and doing gigs for accommodation and food provisions where ever she stopped.

Bus Éireann liked the idea so much that they invited her to tour to whole of Ireland free of charge and so Emily travelled the length and breadth of the county for four months. “It was definitely a very interesting and unique tour, and most importantly, very successful.”
After being asked to support Jack L at An Grianán Theatre in Letterkenny, Emily was asked by the well-known singer himself to go on his nationwide tour and so she took off again.

“I got to travel around the country a second time supporting him on his sell-out 27 Club Tour which included a gig at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin,” said Emily.
Emily is now setting off on another national Single Launch Tour which will see her perform everywhere from her native Ardara to Derry, Galway and Dublin.
