TWO of the best known forwards in the GAA will be in Donegal in the coming days.
The great Colm ‘Gooch’ Cooper is visiting Loreto Milford on Monday. The Kerry legend, who will be there from approximately 9.30am until 12 noon, will launch the school’s AIB Build a Bank and open a new outdoor challenge area before taking the boys U16 and seniors for a training session from 10 til 11 and then the girls U16 and seniors from 11 til 12.
Another All-Ireland winner Steven McDonnell, who kicked the winning point for Armagh against Kerry in the 2002 final, will be among a panel offering advice at a free event being held in Letterkenny on Tuesday evening.
He will be joined by ex-New Zealand rugby union player development manager Paul MacKinnon and other experts to discuss how the emerging field of performance analysis can benefit grassroots clubs and athletes.
“I’ll be talking about my career and what I felt got the best performances from me, in terms of my own preparation and the work of the coaching staff around me. There will also be lots of advice on the new technology and techniques that have arrived in the last few years and are revolutionising training and coaching at all levels of sport,” he said.
The seminar is being organised by Portadown-based Performa Sports, the makers of a cutting-edge performance analysis application already being used by Mayo, Armagh, Derry, All-Ireland club champions Crossmaglen Rangers and a host of other sports teams.
The seminar takes place at Gallaghers Hotel in Letterkenny on Tuesday, November 6, at 7.30pm. Entry is free but places are limited.
Anyone attending the event will also be entered into a draw to win free use of Performa Sports for their club for 12 months.
