A5 shock uproar

AS the uproar over the A5 dual carriageway project continued unabated yesterday (Thursday) Fine Gael remained adamant the project would go ahead, albeit 18 months behind schedule.
Speaking to the Donegal News, Deputy Joe McHugh insisted that the A5 will go ahead, despite claims this week that funding had been ‘shelved’ by the government.
There was widespread anger in Donegal on Wednesday after the Northern Ireland Finance Minister Sammy Wilson claimed the Irish government had ‘reneged’ on their agreement to provide their portion of dual funding for the major road project from Derry to Aughnacloy in Northern Ireland. Later the Minister for Transport Mr Leo Varadkar confirmed in the Dáil that the project was being delayed.
